The GBPRA Scoring System
The GBPRA Scoring System

Every shooting sport has it’s own way of scoring and PRS is no exception, usually points are awarded to shooters based off their percentage of the winning score which then are used for a league standing. At the GBPRA we do things a little different.

For our rimfire, centrefire and our qualification leaderboards we use the Plum system and have been for a number of years, this came about as the regular PRS scoring system would punish shooters if the winner did much better than everyone else. So to try and ensure fairness between matches with varying targets and conditions, we enlisted the help of a statistician who designed us a system which we think works much better.

To work out scores we take the average of the top 20 % of shooters at a match and then award shooters points based off their percentage to that average. The top 20% value always being rounded down to the nearest integer.

(Your score / average of the top 20%) x 100 = Leaderboard points

For centrefire and qualification your best two scores from the year are added together to give your total.

For 2024 we have been trying to balance the rimfire leaderboard to try and encourage shooters to travel and to reward participation at big events. We are therefore trialling a 0.3 pt per shooter bonus at matches of over 16 shooters.

To better reflect a shooter’s performance throughout the year and to encourage shooters to not just put two good scores in we use their best score plus their average over the year, and give shooters a 1pt bonus for every match attended past their first 2

This is not a finalised solution and we are constantly reviewing and may make tweaks throughout the year.
